About the Blog

Started in 2013 by Hattie C. Cooper, The Anxious Girl’s Guide to Dating began as a place to share dating stories and advice to a community of equally anxious people. Since then, it has gone on to reach thousands of readers.

In July 2015, The Anxious Girl’s Guide to Dating book was published, compiling highlights from the blog with brand-new tips on surviving the dating world while also living with anxiety.

Living with anxiety is difficult enough, but dating with anxiety sometimes feels impossible. Few things made Hattie more aware of  her anxiety than trying to go on dates. It took her years of baby steps to enter the world of dating. And while the anecdotes and advice are from her own perspective, that in no way is meant to limit the audience. All genders, ages, sexual orientations, and perspectives are welcome. Nothing said here should ever replace professional medical advice.

The blog is here to share insights in an effort to do what all writing tries to do: to remind us we are all alone together.

About Hattie

I’m a naturally anxious person. Technically, I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. And while I’ve grown to manage my anxiety in everyday life, when I first tried entering the dating world I was absolutely miserable. My nerves, fears, and insecurities dominated my thoughts and actions as I tried to fill out even the simplest online dating form “What do you do for fun!?” Uh, not this?

Working on this blog has helped put the dating world into focus for me. It has been moonlight through an open window.

I have been humbled and honored to connect with you, my readers, over these past few years. The emails and questions I’ve received from you guys has made me feel heard, understood, and trusted. Thank you for your kindness, humility, courage, and hilarious wit. I hope you know that your time means everything to me.

Fun facts about me:
– I’m obsessed with peppermint tea
– I will smile at every dog I pass on the street
– I once took a 48 hr trip from Washington state to Florida, just to meet Jim Lovell
– I hold a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Psychology
– I love to travel in spite of the way it increases my anxiety
– I believe in Sasquatch (or, I want to believe)

  1. Nice to have connected with you Hattie!! Your blog is very welcoming and provides wonderful resources for others! Thanks for visiting my blog! I’ll be back for sure. Congrats on the book as well! :-)

  2. Stumbled across it while looking at fellow blogger’s “following” list and love that you’re engaged in a world I’m not. Always looking to expand my understanding of different communities and your blog seems to be a positive place for that!

  3. My passion is health, but my approach is anything but typical. I hope my writing stimulates thought as well as ACTION. I want people (in general) to care as much about themselves as I do for them. It’s pretty challenging to break self destructive patterns, but I will continue to attempt to do so in my politically incorrect yet gently diplomatic manner. I look forward to your feedback on any article. I am not judgemental and learn as much from the readers of my blog site as I attempt to teach. I look forward to your future posts as well. Congratulations on your publication.

  4. Thanks for the follow I am enjoying your blog. I have some exciting news I will be writing a horror book to be posted on my blog for Halloween if not sooner. It will be my first book in 5 years. My love and passion for the genre brought me back to writing books as over the past 5 years my direction in storytelling has mostly been light funny horror short stories not serious now this is a return to real scary and usually those stories involve more characters and need to be long. I am excited to be doing a book again. Hope you have been well! Keep up the good work!

      • Thanks I finished the first chapter of my horror book today it’s been a lot of fun and I can see this will be a lot of fun and I will really enjoy writing this book. good luck to you too!
